New Song Pictures in Oceanside Launches Big Screen Movie Production "How To Save A Life"

Oceanside, CA June 16, 2008 - New Song Pictures begins production June 21, 2008 on a motion picture focusing on bringing hope to thousands of hurting and lonely teenagers. The feature-length film, "How to Save a Life," is the creation of New Song Community Church's youth pastor, Jim Britts, who wrote the screenplay after learning that the top influencer of teen behavior is not their parents, school or church, but movies. "I work with troubled teens every day and see the severity of the poor choices they make. Movies are a powerful way to illustrate the consequences of making the wrong choice while reinforcing positive actions," said Britts.

"How to Save a Life" will be shot at Oceanside High School, Tri-City Christian School and other locations in and around North County San Diego.

The production of the film is a community effort with more than 80 percent of the cast and crew coming from the San Diego area, and equipment and funding donated by local supporters.  New Song Pictures is still looking for local volunteer production assistance and equipment. The project has attracted Hollywood talent as well, including director Brian Baugh, whose screen credits include "An American Carol," "The Ultimate Gift" and "Jack and the Beanstalk". The key roles of Jake and Amy will be played by actors Randy Wayne ("The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning") and Deja Kreutzberg ("CSI: Miami", "As the World Turns").

The Message: Saving Lives

"How to Save a Life" follows star high school athlete Jake who crumbles under pressure after a childhood friend commits suicide -- more than 10 million teenagers a year attempt suicide.  An impulsive call to a youth pastor changes Jake's life and begins a chain reaction of life-saving events for those around him. Producer Britts, hopes the film will touch lives in a profound way.  "It offers an uplifting message and alternative to the hopelessness teens may face as they struggle with challenges including violence, suicide, and unplanned pregnancy," he added.

About the Filmmakers

"How to Save a Life" is a co-production of New Song Pictures, a division of New Song Community Church, and Outreach, Inc. a Vista, Calif. church marketing company that has provided promotional tools for some of Hollywood's most successful movies: The Passion of the Christ, The Chronicles of Narnia and The Nativity Story.

In addition to Britts, producers of the film include Steve Foster, Executive Pastor of New Song Community Church; and Nicole Franco, a veteran Los Angeles and New York producer.  Through this film the producers hope to empower teens to reach out to troubled peers, giving hope to those contemplating suicide and to turn the tide of teen violence so prevalent in today's headlines.
