Service Members Receive Quite A Catch
Nothing says San Diego like an awesome fish taco. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2006, Camp Pendleton service members got that authentic taste of southern California for free.
From noon to 3 p.m. in the Mainside Chapel parking lot of Camp Pendleton, 15,000 pounds of premium Albacore tuna was grilled into fish tacos and handed out as a thank you to the service members who serve and protect our nation. Giant jumpers also were provided for the kids.
The fish is donated by Mike Burns of The World Famous Smoked Fish and Disabled American Veterans of San Diego. As a former Marine, Burns has a huge heart for his military comrades and wants to help the best way a fisherman knows how. Burns donates the fresh frozen fish to New Song Community Church, who supplies the man-power of distributing the mass quantities of fish.
While many residents of Camp Pendleton are from other parts of the country, this outreach demonstrates the unique way San Diegans show their appreciation.
