FAQ's for Parents

How Sick is Sick?

Deciding when your child is too sick for school or daycare isn’t always easy. Here are general guidelines from pediatricians at Children’s Hospital:

  • Do not send your child to school with a fever of more than 100 degrees.
  • If your child has a sore throat with no other symptoms, give school a try. If the soreness is severe or accompanied by fever, keep your child home and call your pediatrician.
  • Your child can go to school with mild cold symptoms, but keep him/her home and consult your pediatrician if a fever and/or deep cough develops.
  • Rashes are common with viral childhood diseases like chicken pox, but they may also mean a more serious illness. If your child has a rash and a fever, keep him/her home and away from other children. Call your pediatrician.
  • If your child suffers from a stomachache or vomiting, keep him/her home until the symptoms subside. If this condition persists for more than 24 hours and/or is severe, call your pediatrician.
  • A youngster with a toothache or an earache should stay out of school and get medical attention.
  • Usually, a child who complains of a headache without other symptoms may go to school. Persistent headaches need the attention of your pediatrician.
  • Your child normally can return to school with a mild illness when there has been no fever for 12 hours.

What if my child misbehaves?

We want every child to feel safe and have self-control while they are in PromiseLand, so we ask them for their very best behavior. Asking for their best behavior and providing engaging activities usually fosters the classroom atmosphere we want to create. Our team follows this process if a child needs extra encouragement to manage his behavior well.

  1. Verbal Warning - We ask the child, in a gentle way, to refrain from disruptive behavior.
  2. Time Out - We remove the child from the current activity, until he/she can participate without disruption. For younger children, we use a specific amount of time (3-5 minutes).
  3. Retrieve Parent - We locate the parent in the auditorium and ask that they keep the child with them for the remainder of the service. We like to talk with the parent in private about how to help their child thrive in PromiseLand.

At New Song, we want to help people serve according to their giftedness and passion. We have many different ministry positions in PromiseLand, so almost everyone can find a way to serve.

After attending New Song for six months, complete a PromiseLand ministry application, and we’ll do a background check. Then we’ll have an orientation and do some on-the-job training. We have quarterly get togethers, department parties, and occasional seminars to help you connect with the team and thrive in your ministry.
